Auto-Immune and Chronic Pain Be Gone!

I’ve been treating a significant amount of auto-immune and pain cases in my clinic for many years. As many of us already know, acupuncture and Chinese medicine are quite beneficial in the management of chronic and auto-immune disease. For centuries, acupuncturists have been treating such disorders as diabetes, fibromyalgia, multiple sclerosis, and even ankylosing spondylitis cases by utilizing our bodies’ own energy fields with great success.

Just recently, I have been able to alleviate the pain and extreme fatigue for a new patient who was repeatedly being administered cortisone injections by her rheumatologist for arthritis. She felt the injections were beginning to do more harm than good for her, as she watched her health and stamina quickly decline once the specialist began treating her with this approach. Realizing she had to find another way, this patient had already changed her diet to a whole foods / anti-inflammatory one, and experienced improvement from this change almost immediately before coming to see me. But, the addition of acupuncture has “sealed the deal” on recovery for her. She is moving about with great ease and has regained her energy. With it’s proven anti-inflammatory and endorphine boosting effects, acupuncture has given her her life back!

Scientifically speaking: In a June, 2006 Science Daily article, acupuncture is proven to be affective by the Mayo Clinic. “Fibromyalgia is a disorder considered disabling by many, and is characterized by chronic, widespread musculoskeletal pain and symptoms such as fatigue, joint stiffness and sleep disturbance. No cure is known and available treatments are only partially effective." Mayo’s study involved 50 fibromyalgia patients enrolled in a randomized, controlled trial to determine if acupuncture improved their symptoms. Symptoms of patients who received acupuncture significantly improved compared with the control group, according to the study published in the June issue of Mayo Clinic Proceedings. “The results of the study convince me there is something more than the placebo effect to acupuncture,” says David Martin, M.D., Ph.D., lead author of the acupuncture article and a Mayo Clinic anesthesiologist. “It affirms a lot of clinical impressions that this complementary medical technique is helpful for patients.”

As a practitioner who had experienced nearly four years of chronic pain myself, due to a nerve injury, I can relate to what patients are going through. By "opening up" the energetic channels (acupuncture meridian pathways), as well as decreasing inflammation and boosting "core energy" through acupuncture treatment, those who have been suffering with chronic pain due to auto-immune deficiency, or even musculo-skeletal or nerve injury pain have a viable option for pain relief. As well, I always recommend that patients eliminate inflammatory foods and make lifestyle changes such as: a gluten-free diet, eliminating dairy, sugar, caffeine and alcohol. And avoiding physical activities that aggravate your pain until the inflammation cycle has been re-set. Essentially: Once the pain has completely gone away, wait two more days to attempt the physical activity that may be aggravating your issue with absolutely perfect body mechanics and for 1/5 the effort you would usually apply. This approach gives the body a chance to rebuild where we've been weakened by injury. Being able to treat myself with acupuncture while rehabilitating from a serious auto accident was paramount. I'm here to guide you in living a pain free, even happier, even healthier life!
